1932 City of Charleston South Carolina Police Pay Warrant Depression Scrip #51932 City of Charleston South Carolina Police Pay Warrant Depression Scrip
Description
Excellent quality check. Fresh from the estate of a Colonial and Revolutionary War historian and author, this is one of many 17th, 18th, 19th, and early 20th century items that I am offering from the collection.
Excellent condition as pictured.
Having no money in 1932 to pay its employees, the city of Charleston issued pay warrants to its employees instead of money. These are called depression scrips. The employees later redeemed and cancelled the scrip for pay. Nobody liked the idea, but it was better than nothing and tided the city over some very rough times. FREE shipping!
