Description

This listing is for one 2019-P Australia Centenary of First Flight 2 oz Antique Silver Coin PCGS MS70 First Strike
As of 9/18/19 the total PCGS population for this MS70 is 168 coins.
In 1919, Captain Ross Smith, Lieutenant Keith Smith and Sergeants Wally Shiers and James Bennett made history when they landed their open cockpit ex-bomber Vickers ‘Vimy’ aeroplane in Darwin. The Australian servicemen were the first to make the harrowing 17,000 kilometre journey from England to Australia by air within 30 days. Marking the 100th anniversary of this ground-breaking success, this spectacular 2oz silver antiqued coin features an innovative propeller insert, making it a unique collectable to celebrate the achievement.
The coin’s reverse depicts a map with the flight’s route marked above an illustration of a mountainous landscape. In the foreground is a representation of the Vickers aircraft. The centre of the coin features a gold-plated propeller insert that actually rotates. The design includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the inscription CENTENARY OF FIRST FLIGHT and ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA.
There is a limited mintage of only 2,000 coins.
This coin comes with the original mint packaging and numbered certificate of authenticity.
