PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The term Ancient Greece refers to a civilization that existed in the northeastern Mediterranean region from 700-480 B.C. Known for its art, architecture and philosophy among many other things, Ancient Greece is also known for inventing the city-state (polis) which became the defining feature of Greek political life for hundreds of years. The Greek world was divided into more than 2,000 Polis, more than half of which issued their own coinage.
In 2022 a new gold series was issued to pay tribute to some of the most famous coins from the Ancient Greek era.
Struck by Germany's Mayer Mint and released on behalf of the Cook Islands as legal tender. Each denomination coin is struck from ½ gram of .9999 fine gold and has a worldwide mintage of ONLY 15,000!!
The obverse of each coin in the series depicts Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II, encircled by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II”, “COOK ISLANDS” and “5 DOLLARS” while the reverse of each coin features a reproduction of the original designs.
Alexander the Great, also known as Alexander III or Alexandre de Macedonia, is widely considered one of the best generals in history. He has shown unusual versatility both by combining different weapons and adapting his tactics to challenge his opponents. The short reign of Alexander marks a decisive moment in the history of Europe and Asia.
