    Description

Item for sale is the original and complete, (40 page) June 16th, 1984, edition of the New York Daily News, newspaper; the lead story of the day was of the shooting of Police Officer Juan Andino, an 11 year veteran of the New York City Police Department assigned to the 40th Precinct. Officer Andino was shot and killed with his own gun after attempting to apprehend a perpetrator who had stolen a pair of Cazal designer eyeglass frames from a crowded South Bronx store on Andino's beat. The glasses were a fad of the day among young toughs in New York City. The perpetrator would steal the officer's gun and fire three shots at him, two would strike him, one of them would pierce his head. A second officer would respond to the scene and wound the suspect with her gun, as a third officer intervened, helping in the suspect's  arrest. Officer Andino would be removed to Lincoln Hospital where he would succumb to his injuries. The perpetrator would later be convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to twenty five years in prison. This is a great newspaper that speaks of a time when violence ruled the streets of New York, and Police Officer's lives were routinely in jeopardy as they patrolled the streets and byways of New York.
