Item Description.
A rather scarce, early “pocket” calculator manufactured by Soundesign of Japan.  The Soundesign 8301 was introduced in 1973 at the dawn of integrated circuits and the computing revolution.  The device was simple in today’s terms, touting four functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and an orange gas discharge display.  Primative is a better descriptor.  At a cost of , it was also not cheap.  The device is powered by either 4 C batteries or an A/C adaptor (included).  The device was tested with the adaptor and it functions as designed; testing with batteries was not performed.  This listing includes the calculator and the ac adaptor.
Condition Details.
The device is in excellent condition with the following issues noted:  minor corrosion of the contacts in the battery compartment; moderate loss of text on the backside of the device; delamination of the backing of the display cover in areas not intended to be transparent (doesn’t affect the ability to see the numbers); minor grime accumulation on the metal surrounding the keys; three moderate scrapes on the bottom plastic; wear on all four of the rubber feet; a scratch and small indentation on the metal frame of the front end; a few minor scratches of the metal frame on both sides; three more serious scraches on the metal frame of the right side; moderate scuff on the top edge of the metal fram right side; slight indentation on the left side metal frame towards the front; slight scuffing on the upper part of the display cover; a few minor scrapes of the edge transition of the metal surround on the front top of the device.  There may be other minor cosmetic issues not mentioned, but the vast majority of the damages are listed.
