DEPRESSION ERA SCRIP. THIRD NATIONAL BANK IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. UNIQUE NOTES.Regrettably, these notes are glued onto the board. However, there are atleast 4 unique notes here, with a potential for there being 6. Also, examine serial numbers on the and issues.
The four monochrome notes on right side are temporary notes that were only meant to circulate for 10-14 days while regular issue was being produced. I could find no comps on any denomination of these "temporary" issues and a four may be unique. There is a catalog on internet published to show denominations available from each issuing bank, and the 's and 's for Third National Bank of Nashvilke are not listed as there have been no reported examples from the collector community.
I believe this board was prepared by an early scrip historian named Vernon Brown as mention of all denominations appeared in his 1941 thesis. Because the 's and 's remained unissued, the preparer was able to obtain matching serial numbers for the temporary and regular issue scrip.
Low serial numbers are great, but #1 notes have a devoted following. Here the regular issue and temporary issue 's both have #1's and both issues for 's have #2 serial numbers.
