    Description

HAKATA DOLL, VINTAGE KOREAN WAR, HARI KARI, UNGLAZED Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
Purchased by my dad while he was stationed in Korea during the late forties, early fifties. Hakata dolls, as these were called, are very detailed pottery figures. The most commmon are workers or fishermen, there were not many that represented Hari Kari.
Hakata Station was nearby in Fukuoka, Japan, and he bought & brought back this figure of a Samuri in the act of committing HariKari, the suicide ritual of disembowellment. The detailing is exceptional and as time went on the quality of Hakata dolls went down due to high demand and hence faster production times. This one is unglazed and has very little wear from handling. My mom put self adhesive light green felt on the bottom to prevent chipping or damage.
It has sat in a box for many years. Excellent condition. STUDY PICTURES, ASK QUESTIONS IF NECESSARY.
