    Description

Nemo - Latin for “no one”. One of the most fascinating figures in history, L'Homme au Masque de Fer was a prisoner held under the name Eustache Dauger from 1669 until his death in 1703. Little is known about his true identity, and theories put forward by Voltaire, Dumas and others have been argued for centuries.
This set puts forth the theory that “He was born near the Throne; was ordered upon peril of his life to conceal his face (by wearing an iron mask), he must therefore had features noteworthy and familiar to his people. The summary of the many versions written by Voltaire, Sainte-Foix, Lagrange, Chancel and others show that this man with such striking resemblance was no doubt a son of Louis XIII and a twin brother of Louis XIV.”
Spectacular two piece set done by “the model shop”, Calvert Litho of Detroit. Slight surface rubs and glue staining on back where it was removed from sample book, small 1/2” tear along top edge. Otherwise, great condition. As the saying goes, “show me a better one!” Discovered in a private collection of rare and one of a kind artworks. Approximate size: 6” x 8”, 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”.
