The Mythical Phoenix
In Chinese culture the mythological phoenix
is regarded as an immortal bird whose rare appearance foreshadows armony at the ascent to the throne of a new emperor. Representing virtue and grace, the phoenix is said to be symbolic of yin and yang, and the image of this sacred bird is often seen at weddings and royal events alongside a dragon.
In Feng Shui, the dragon and the phoenix
are considered perfect matches for one another. The phoenix is ‘yin’ while the dragon is ‘yang’ in the Chinese philosophical account of natural balance and interdependence.
