Description
Here is a nice working setup for the 1970's 'solid state software' advanced TI-59 scientific calculator made by Texas Instruments. This consists of the calculator and its printer base station with integrated thermal printer and battery charger PC-100C. The calculator can take various other modules for preset programs and often-used formulas. The standard rom module 'Master Library' is included, along with a small number of magnetic card strips for the function keys. The case is yellowed, and there is some kind of blemish on the front. The calculator key surround has some blemishes.
- All buttons appear to work on the calculator, I have run the rom diagnostics and it passes (see photos)
- All segments of the LED display work fine and look nice and bright.
- The thermal printer is fully working, it chugs away with no missing elements, feeds paper just fine. (check the paper roll is seated properly after shipping!) the print button does what it should, the latching Trace button allows for line-by-line printing of your key actions and works fine, as does the ADV (feed) button.
- The rechargeable battery pack still works (!), and after an hour of charging it was still working fine the next day, no signs of leakage or trouble, slots in and works fine. I perhaps would not be relying on this, but the batteries may have been replaced with more modern ones in the past few decades, or it was just well maintained? slight nick in one corner of this pack.
Very interesting piece, I had fun playing the Hi-Lo game that is built into the rom. I have not tested absolutely every function of the calculator but all signs look good if it can pass its tests and load and play the games it looks good to me!

Just to clarify as someone asked a question : I didn't realise how the card reader even worked as i don't have a manual. I did however put a magnetic card in the side and it sucked it in and pulled it through to the other side. When i tried it a second time it got stuck and the motor whirs. It does pull it in a short way then stalls. Probably needs cleaning or properly servicing. I couldn't get the case off completely to take a look, and seeing as the auction is running, i'm not going to disturb it further this is for the new owner to work out.
thanks!
