    Description

The Complete book of World War II USA POW & Internment Camp Chits; Prisoner of War money in the United States. By Dave Frank & David E. Seelye 2018 A new full color catalog covering all the known paper chits used in all the known Camps in the USA. Current prices in two grades, with full color images with catalog numbers. The book has over 900 images, and 256 pages in a convenient 6” x 9” format. During WW2 there were more than 425,000 prisoners of war held in more than 700 camps around the country. When the liberty ships returned from Europe they carried the pows. The pows earned 80 cents a day, more if they worked primarily manual labor, harvesting crops, in the logging industry, and many other non defense related occupations. Their pay was credited to their account, and chit booklets were issued in their name and debited in their account. The chits could be used in the pow camp stores or exchanges for incidentals such as soap, 3.2 beer, shaving gear, cigarettes, and candy. The chit book was handed to the clerk and he removed the correct amount in chits and handed the booklet back to the pow purchaser. IBNS 10:087184-404-4

    MPCFest
Collectors of military money and related materials have a special event every year. It is called MPCFest even though it encompasses much more than MPC. It is a celebration of the hobby and a special time for everyone who attends. MPCFest XX will be held May 3-5, 2018 in Port Clinton, Ohio. We carefully avoid calling the event a show because people have definite ideas of what to expect at a paper money show and from the very beginning this was going to be something different. The most glaring difference was that we did not plan to have a bourse. Since Fest 6 we have had a bourse. It is unique not only because the dealers feature MPC and other military money, but because it is only on Friday! That certainly sounds strange, but do not think that it is not an exciting bourse. Great material is available for purchase. Additionally, specialty programs/meetings are held during the bourse. JIM, war bonds, and even military stamp collectors hold meetings during the bourse. From early Friday evening through Sunday afternoon the schedule is packed with interesting--and fun--things to do and they all have to do with collecting military money! Each year the national champion collector is decided by a contest of knowledge. The current champion is Joe Boling. Collectors have come to the Fest from Germany, England, and Canada in addition to the United States. The first Fest had twelve collectors in attendance. Now 50-60 excited collectors attend every year. The entire group would love to have you join us. Reservations can be made by calling Kim (a 14 year Fester) at the Holiday Inn Express Port Clinton 419 349 1872. Port Clinton OH is about 1.75 hours by car from the Detroit Airport DTW or the Cleveland CLE. Your choice depents on airlines and connections. See you there!! David
