    This wood carved bear and salmon statue was made in 1968 15th June in Akanko lake, Hokkaido.
    Detailed and beautiful work.
    There is carved sign of the date and place on the bottom of the foot.
    Wood carved bear get famous as traditional crafts of the Ainu people in Hokkaido.
    Ainu people starts making carved bear as winter season sideline.
    In the early period bear didn't holding salmon, a bear holding salmon first appeared around 1931 and it get big boom in Japan around 1950-1960 with the travel boom to Hokkaido.
